PRINCIPAL HYDROGEOLOGIST / ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

Position:- Principal Hydrogeologist / Environmental Engineer

Preferred Qualifications:- BSc and MSc, or PhD in Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology, or Environmental Engineering, with Chartered Status.

Previous Professional Experience:- 10 to 15 years.

Role

FWS Consultants Ltd is an established UK Geological and Environmental Consultancy, engaged in geo-environmental engineering, minerals exploration and mining. Our Environmental and Minerals Team provides hydrogeological and environmental services to clients over a wide range of market sectors including mining and minerals extraction, unconventional gas, underground coal gasification, deep drilling, solution mining, commercial, industrial and residential development and waste management.

An experienced, innovative and commercially aware Hydrogeologist or Environmental Engineer is required to assist in expanding and developing the hydrogeological services in the UK and overseas. The candidate is to have an aptitude in business development, a high level of ability in project management, report writing and design experience in construction, reclamation and mining engineering.

Managerial Capabilities

The position will entail a significant managerial role within the Company and, as such, the candidate should have the following managerial capabilities:-

  • Planning, budgeting and financial management at project and company level.
  • Preparation of proposals and consortium bids.
  • Undertaking a managerial role to expand, develop and sustain the budgetary, technical output and performance of the hydrogeological and environmental services.
  • Client management and orchestration of marketing initiatives.
  • Quality Management and approving the technical output of the unit and initiating procedures to monitor and ensure that the technical and professional standard of output meets with current guidance and regulations.
  • Team leadership, staff training, management and development.
  • Acting as a technical expert both to Clients and Regulators.

Technical Capabilities

Candidates should be able to demonstrate an understanding and capability in a number of the following areas:-

  • Design, co-ordination and reporting on hydrogeological investigations, to provide design assessment of (for example); pollution and transport modelling, dewatering and groundwater lowering, flow path assessment and groundwater drainage design.
  • Water resource assessment, well design and regulatory permits for abstractions and discharges.
  • Hydrogeological risk assessment modelling for contaminated land.
  • Contract management of site investigations, pumping tests, tracer tests, deep drilling projects and land reclamation.
  • Preparing and directing hydrogeological models, design calculations and assessments utilising, where appropriate, computer software packages such as:- MODFLOW, SEEP/WP20, ConSim, RBCA and LandSim.
  • Preparation of design specifications, contract documentation and interpretative reports to current design standards.
  • Preparing detailed hydrogeological and environmental design reports.

Our Geotechnical and Environmental Team provides a broad range of design and construction management services to clients over a diverse range of market sectors including mining and minerals extraction, commercial, industiral and residential development and waste management.

An experienced, innovative and commercially aware Engineering Geologist or Getoechnical Engineer is required to assist in expanding and developing the engineering geological services in the UK and overseas. The candidate is to have an aptitude in business development, a high level of ability in project management, report writing and design experience in construction, reclamation and/or mining engineering.

  • Design, co-ordination and reporting on geotechnical / environmental investigations, to provide engineering designs for earthworks, foundations, slopes, retaining walls, ground improvement and reclamation of derelict land.
  • Contract management of site investigations, deep drilling projects, ground engineering, earthworks and land reclamation.
  • Directing and checking detailed geotechnical and environmental design calculations and assessments utilising, where appropriate, computer software packages such as:- SLOPE, VDSP, STAWAL and WALLOP.
  • Preparation of design specifications, contract documentation and interpretative reports to current design standards.
